How rankings work

Rising

  • Ranked by stars gained in the selected period: the last 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
  • Stars gained = current stars − stars at the start of the period. For repositories created during the period, all of their stars count.
  • We track up to 4,000 repositories. Every 10 minutes we re-check 100 of them and search GitHub for new candidates. Repositories gaining stars are re-checked hourly, others every 4–12 hours, and the slowest growers are dropped when the pool is full.
  • Only tracked repositories can appear. For one we started tracking after the period began, the gain is measured from the first count we recorded, so it may be understated.
  • "Good first issues" keeps repositories with at least one open issue labeled "good first issue".

New

  • Repositories created in the selected period (at least the last 30 days when a framework is selected), ranked by total stars.
  • "/day" is total stars divided by days since creation.

Data

  • Star counts come from the public GitHub API.
  • Rankings are cached for up to 30 minutes (Rising) or 10–60 minutes (New).
